The Wildlife Habitat Federation (WHF) is dedicated to the restoration, management, and long-term sustainability of native grassland habitats in Texas. Working closely with landowners and conservation partners, WHF implements tailored strategies to combat habitat loss caused by urbanization, agriculture, and extreme weather. By fostering resilient ecosystems, WHF enhances soil, water, and air quality while supporting diverse wildlife populations, contributing to a healthier environment for both nature and communities.

Professional Services & Areas of Expertise:

Habitat Management

Identify Your Goals: What plant and/or wildlife species would you like to see on your land?

Site Evaluation: An on-site evaluation of your land by a trained professional will provide you with information about the soil and what vegetation is currently on your property.

Habitat Management Planning: This 3-5+ year management plan will include a timeline indicating when to implement practices needed to improve your property as a native prairie habitat.

Implementation: We provide on-the-ground restoration, management, and generational sustainability of prairie habitat for the conservation of soil, water, air, and wildlife.

Monitor: WHF utilizes accepted monitoring protocols of our restoration and management systems to measure their impact on biodiversity and to provide scientific data for WHF as well as our local conservation community. WHF collects and analyzes water samples to demonstrate enhancements in water quality for the benefit of freshwater aquatic species, primarily freshwater mussels, and restoration sites are monitored for quality of Monarch butterfly habitat.

Special Programs
In coordination with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and The Jacob and Terese Hershey Foundation, WHF is providing technical assistance in the planning of conservation activities to landowners in a 17-county area located in the lower Colorado, Lower San Bernard and the lower Brazos River watersheds free of charge to the landowner.

In a cooperative Agreement with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and WHF (Recipient), WHF will strive to increase the conservation of natural resources and agricultural sustainability of Historically Underserved Farmers and Ranchers, and small acreage landowners, in Central Texas through a program of Outreach and Technical Assistance, adding to NRCS’s conservation planning capacity. This agreement covers expenses of WHF Conservationists and is free of charge to the landowner.
